Featuring a solid maple body, maple and walnut neck-through construction, and a bound rosewood fingerboard with deluxe triangular inlays, the 4003 maintains the classic appointments that have made it a favorite among rock, progressive, and alternative musicians. The natural Mapleglo finish highlights the instrument's maple construction, while its dual Hi-Gain pickups and mono/stereo output capabilities provide the tonal flexibility associated with this legendary model.

The solid maple body provides a resonant foundation with the strong midrange presence, clear attack, and focused low frequencies that distinguish Rickenbacker basses from more conventional designs. Its elegantly curved double-cutaway shape is accented by body binding, emphasizing the instrument's familiar silhouette. The Mapleglo finish showcases the natural appearance of the maple, creating a classic contrast with the rosewood fingerboard and hardware. The neck-through-body construction extends the maple and walnut neck through the center of the instrument, contributing to the sustained, harmonically rich response that has become a defining characteristic of the 4003.

The rosewood fingerboard features a 10" radius, 20 frets, and Rickenbacker's signature deluxe triangular position inlays. Binding along the fingerboard edges adds a refined visual detail that distinguishes the standard 4003 from the more streamlined 4003S. The 33 1/4" scale length provides the familiar tension and response associated with Rickenbacker basses, while the 1 11/16" nut width offers a comfortable playing feel for both fingerstyle and pick techniques. At the 12th fret, the neck measures 2 1/8" wide, providing ample room for articulate playing across all four strings.

Two Rickenbacker Hi-Gain pickups deliver the unmistakable tonal character of the 4003, combining substantial low-frequency output with the upper-midrange definition and treble punch that have made these basses a staple of countless recordings. The neck pickup provides a full, rounded response, while the bridge pickup emphasizes clarity, attack, and the distinctive bite that allows Rickenbacker bass lines to remain present in dense arrangements. The 4003 also features both mono and stereo output capabilities, allowing players to use a conventional single-output setup or route the pickups separately through compatible amplification and effects systems. This flexibility makes the instrument particularly useful for players seeking independent control over their low-end foundation and more aggressive upper-register tones.

The Rickenbacker 4003 Mapleglo is equipped with a V2 bridge and RIC tailpiece, providing a stable string anchor and precise adjustment for intonation and setup. Schaller tuning machines offer dependable tuning performance, while the traditional hardware and bound body construction preserve the instrument's classic appearance. With its solid maple body, neck-through design, rosewood fingerboard, dual Hi-Gain pickups, and stereo output capability, the 4003 remains a distinctive choice for players seeking the unmistakable sound and feel of a Rickenbacker bass.
