The Next Generation 614ce continues Andy Powers’ long-running reworking of maple as a premium acoustic tonewood. Rather than the overly bright or rigid character players sometimes associate with maple acoustics, this platform leans into warmth, openness, and responsiveness while still preserving maple’s excellent clarity and note separation. Taylor specifically describes the updated 614ce as fuller and warmer sounding, with enhanced low-end resonance compared to earlier maple designs.

Built with Big Leaf maple back and sides paired with a torrefied Sitka spruce top, this guitar delivers impressive articulation with added sweetness and depth from the roasted top. The torrefaction process gives the Sitka a more relaxed, played-in response right out of the case, while the maple keeps the attack focused and highly player-reflective—meaning the guitar responds directly to the nuances of your touch and technique.
