Epiphone Futura ES-355 Firestorm Shift at Tone Shop Guitars

Semi-Hollowbody Electric

Epiphone Futura ES-355 — Firestorm Shift

The ES-355 is one of Gibson's most storied semi-hollow designs, and the Futura version brings it into the present with a solid maple centerblock, weight-relief window, and those eye-catching Chromashift finishes that shift color depending on your lighting and angle. The Firestorm Shift looks absolutely killer on camera and even better in person.

Under the hood: a pair of new ProBucker Ignite humbuckers with push/pull coil-splitting and phase switching, bound ebony fingerboard, 22 stainless steel medium-jumbo frets, 10"–14" compound radius, and locking Grover Rotomatic tuners. The LockTone TuneOMatic bridge and Stop Bar keep everything in tune under heavy use.

Epiphone Futura RD Custom Midnight Ember Shift at Tone Shop Guitars

Solidbody Electric · 25.5" Scale

Epiphone Futura RD Custom — Midnight Ember Shift

The RD is a cult classic — Gibson introduced it in 1977 and it blends Explorer and Firebird DNA into something that's entirely its own. Epiphone's Futura RD Custom brings that distinctive silhouette back with modern hardware and a 25.5" scale length that makes it a natural for drop tunings. The Midnight Ember Shift finish has a deep, almost smoldering quality that photographs beautifully.

The sculpted mahogany body gets 7-ply top binding and a contoured back, keeping it comfortable for longer sets. Same ProBucker Ignite humbucker setup with push/pull coil-splitting and phase options, bound ebony board, and stainless steel frets throughout.

Epiphone Futura Les Paul Custom Firestorm Shift at Tone Shop Guitars

Solidbody Electric

Epiphone Futura Les Paul Custom — Firestorm Shift

The Les Paul Custom is the dressed-up version of the most iconic solidbody in history, and Epiphone's Futura take keeps the elegance while adding features that matter for modern players. Ultra Modern weight relief keeps the mahogany body from feeling like a brick, and a maple cap adds the brightness that makes a Les Paul a Les Paul tonally. The Modern Contoured Heel is a genuine quality-of-life upgrade for upper fret access.

Seven-ply binding on the top, long-tenon neck joint, ProBucker Ignite humbuckers, and a bound ebony fingerboard with Super 400-style pearloid block inlays. The Firestorm Shift finish on a Les Paul silhouette is a combination that's hard to look away from.

Quick Specs Body: Mahogany w/ Ultra Modern weight relief, maple cap, 7-ply binding
Neck: Mahogany, long tenon, Modern C profile, Modern Contoured Heel
Fingerboard: Bound ebony, 10"–14" compound radius

"The Modern Contoured Heel and stainless frets alone would be notable upgrades. The color-shifting finish just makes it impossible to ignore."

Epiphone Futura Explorer Custom Dragonfly Shift at Tone Shop Guitars

Solidbody Electric

Epiphone Futura Explorer Custom — Dragonfly Shift

The Explorer is one of those shapes that never goes out of style in the right circles — it was radical when Gibson introduced it in the late '50s, and it's still a statement piece today. The Futura Explorer Custom in Dragonfly Shift is angular mahogany with 7-ply top binding, and that iridescent blue-green Chromashift finish does things in stage lighting that photos can't fully capture.

Same hardware package as the rest of the Futura line: LockTone TuneOMatic and Stop Bar, ProBucker Ignite humbuckers, push/pull coil-split and phase switching, bound ebony fingerboard with stainless frets. Locking Grover Mini Rotomatic tuners on the Explorer-style bound headstock.

Quick Specs Body: Mahogany, angular, 7-ply top binding
Neck: Mahogany, Modern C profile
Fingerboard: Bound ebony, 10"–14" compound radius
Frets: 22 stainless steel medium-jumbo
Pickups: ProBucker Ignite humbuckers (neck & bridge)
Controls: Push/pull vol & tone (coil-split + phase)
Tuners: Locking Grover Mini Rotomatic
Finish: Dragonfly Shift (Chromashift)
Includes: Premium gig bag

Epiphone Futura Firebird Custom Quicksilver Shift at Tone Shop Guitars

Solidbody Electric

Epiphone Futura Firebird Custom — Quicksilver Shift

Originally designed by automotive designer Ray Dietrich, the Firebird has always been its own thing — part car, part guitar, all attitude. The Futura Firebird Custom modernizes the formula with the full Futura feature set: sculpted mahogany body, 7-ply binding, contoured back, and the reverse Firebird headstock fitted with locking Grover Mini Rotomatic tuners. The Quicksilver Shift finish is exactly what it sounds like — a shifting silver that picks up every light source differently.

ProBucker Ignite humbuckers, bound ebony fingerboard, stainless frets, push/pull coil-split and phase options. Whether you're on stage or shooting content, this one's built to be seen.

Quick Specs Body: Mahogany, sculpted, 7-ply top binding, contoured back

What Makes the Futura Series Different

Across the entire Futura lineup, Epiphone made some genuinely meaningful upgrades over what you'd expect at this price. Stainless steel frets last significantly longer than standard nickel-silver fretwire and have a slicker feel under the fingers. The 10"–14" compound radius fingerboard is more comfortable for chord work low on the neck and makes bends easier up high. The ProBucker Ignite humbuckers are new designs — not rebranded carry-overs — and the push/pull electronics give you coil-split and phase options without any wiring modifications.

And then there's the Chromashift finish situation. These are color-shifting finishes that genuinely look different depending on your lighting, your angle, and your stage setup. If you're creating content, gigging under different rigs, or just want a guitar that doesn't look like every other instrument in the room — the Futura Series is worth a look.
