About This Guitar
Gibson Custom Murphy Lab Hummingbird Ebony Light Aged
This Gibson Custom Murphy Lab Hummingbird represents Tone Shop Guitars’ exclusive take on one of Gibson’s most iconic acoustic designs. Finished in Ebony and treated with Murphy Lab Light Aging, this square-shoulder classic blends the unmistakable visual identity of the Hummingbird with the feel and character of a well-preserved vintage instrument.
Introduced in 1960 as Gibson’s first square-shoulder acoustic, the Hummingbird quickly became a defining voice in folk, rock, and country music. This Murphy Lab version stays true to those early examples while incorporating modern Gibson Custom craftsmanship. A thermally aged Sitka spruce top paired with mahogany back and sides delivers a warm, balanced voice with strong midrange presence and clear note definition.
The traditional hand-scalloped X-bracing enhances resonance and responsiveness, while the 24.75" scale length provides a comfortable feel for both strumming and fingerstyle playing. The mahogany neck with a rounded profile offers a familiar vintage-inspired grip, paired with a rosewood fingerboard featuring mother-of-pearl parallelogram inlays.
Murphy Lab Light Aging subtly checks the nitrocellulose lacquer and gently ages the hardware to replicate decades of careful play, giving the guitar the look and feel of a vintage Hummingbird while maintaining the reliability of a new Custom Shop instrument.
