Taylor has always been willing to tear up the playbook. Bolt-on necks when everyone scoffed. V-Class bracing when the guitar world shrugged. Now, with the Next-Generation lineup, they've done it again — and the result is the most player-focused Taylor we've ever put in someone's hands at Tone Shop.
This isn't a cosmetic refresh. It's a genuine evolution of three things that matter most: how the guitar sounds acoustically, how it sounds through a PA, and how it feels to actually own and play for years.
Scalloped V-Class Bracing: More Air. More Soul.
When Taylor introduced V-Class bracing in 2018, it solved a problem that had plagued acoustic guitars forever — you could finally have a guitar that was in tune with itself from the open strings to the 12th fret. But the new Scalloped V-Class takes that foundation and adds something it was missing: warmth.
By carefully removing material from specific brace locations, Taylor engineers have opened up the top in a way that adds weight and bloom to the low end without muddying the clarity up top. Chords feel more three-dimensional. Strumming feels more satisfying. There's more air under the notes.
Players who've always loved the sound of an old X-braced guitar but wanted modern playability and intonation — this is the guitar for you.
The Action Control Neck™: No More Guessing About Setup
This one might not sound glamorous on paper, but ask any gigging musician about neck resets and watch their expression change. Traditional neck joints — glued dovetails, or even Taylor's original bolt-on — required specialized tools, precise shims from the manufacturer, or a full teardown to adjust neck angle.
The Action Control Neck changes that completely. With a simple tool — something any guitarist can own — you can adjust the neck angle yourself, dialing in exactly the action you want, whether that's low and fast for flatpicking or slightly higher for aggressive strumming. No luthier required for a standard adjustment.
But here's the part that surprised us: it sounds better, too. The long-tenon joint increases stiffness at the heel, improving energy transfer between neck and body. The result is a stronger low end and better resonance, especially in the upper registers.
Claria™ Electronics: Plug In. Sound Great. Done.
Taylor's ES2 system has earned a stellar reputation for capturing the natural acoustic character of the guitar — but it requires some finessing live. The new Claria system is built for a different kind of player: someone who needs to plug in at soundcheck, get a great tone immediately, and focus on the music.
Claria uses a refined under-saddle pickup with an intelligently voiced preamp that's been gain-staged to prevent clipping, eliminate piezo quack, and deliver warmth right out of the gate. The controls — Volume, Tone, and a new Mid-Contour — live in the soundhole and are dead simple to use mid-set.
That Mid-Contour is a sleeper feature. It lets you switch between a scooped, clean rhythm sound and a mid-forward lead tone with a single knob turn. For worship players, touring singer-songwriters, or anyone who plays multiple roles in a set, it's a game-changer.
And for those who still love the ES2? It's still available on select models. Claria is an addition, not a replacement.
Which Models Are Part of the Next-Generation Lineup?
The Next-Gen updates are rolling out across Taylor's most popular Grand Auditorium models, including:
- 314ce — the classic all-rounder, now warmer and more open
- 324ce — mahogany-sapele with a lush, voice-forward character
- 414ce — rosewood/spruce refinement at its best
- 814ce — Taylor's flagship, now even more impressive
- Builder's Edition variants — premium aesthetics and feel with all Next-Gen tech
Each model carries the same three core innovations, while preserving the tonal identity that made each series iconic. If you loved your 314ce before, the Next-Gen version will feel familiar — just better in every direction that matters.
Come Play One at Tone Shop
We've had the Next-Generation Taylors on the wall at all three Tone Shop locations, and the reaction from players has been consistent: these guitars are special. Not in a marketing-speak way. In a "you'll know the moment you play the first chord" way.
Stop by our Addison, Southlake, or Fort Worth locations and ask to spend some time with one. If you have a current Taylor, bring it in — the comparison is eye-opening. And if you're new to Taylor entirely, this lineup might be the best entry point in the brand's history.
