The Collings CJ brings together the power and authority of a slope-shouldered jumbo with the precision, balance, and responsiveness that define Collings as a builder. Inspired by classic round-shoulder acoustic designs but refined through Collings’ exacting construction approach, the CJ offers substantial low-end presence and strong projection without sacrificing articulation or control.

This custom-built example builds from the standard CJ platform with several standout upgrades, including a Jet Black top finish, figured maple back and sides, and a Tigerstripe pickguard. The result is a guitar that feels visually distinct while preserving the powerful, open voice that makes the CJ such a compelling large-body acoustic.

The Sitka spruce top provides excellent balance between warmth, headroom, and dynamic flexibility, making the guitar equally comfortable under a flatpick or a lighter touch. Paired with maple back and sides, the tonal response becomes focused, immediate, and highly articulate. Compared to rosewood or mahogany builds, maple introduces greater clarity, tighter bass response, and outstanding note separation—qualities that pair exceptionally well with the CJ body shape.
