About This Guitar

The Collings OM1 JL is Julian Lage’s signature acoustic, developed as a highly personal extension of the Collings Traditional Series. Built around the OM platform, it combines Sitka spruce and Honduran mahogany with a custom neck carve, satin nitro finish, and details drawn directly from Lage’s long-played 1939 Martin 000-18.

The body pairs a Sitka spruce top with Honduran mahogany back and sides and uses Collings’ Traditional Series build and voicing. Custom pre-war scalloped X-bracing, tortoise binding with custom wood purfling, a custom wood rosette, and walnut Style 1 backstrip give the OM1 JL a restrained, vintage-inspired presentation.

One of the defining features is the custom JL neck carve. Collings modeled it from Lage’s 1939 000-18, including the asymmetrical wear that developed over decades of use. The Honduran mahogany neck retains the original guitar’s relatively narrow 1 11/16" nut but extends the scale to Collings’ 25 1/2" length.

The ebony fingerboard features a 14"-26" compound radius and understated gold mother-of-pearl short dot inlays. Collings also uses a custom satin nitrocellulose lacquer on both the body and neck, developed to create a thin, broken-in feel without artificial aging.

An ebony belly-style bridge with 2 3/16" spacing, relic nickel Waverly tuners with vintage oval buttons, ebony bridge pins with mother-of-pearl dots, and the vintage-style Collings script peghead logo complete the build. A Collings deluxe hardshell case is included.
