The Collings 470-JL is one of the most distinct electric guitars in the Collings lineup, built through a deep collaboration with Julian Lage and designed from the sound up. This example comes in Antiqued Sunburst and includes the Bigsby B3 vibrato, giving the guitar its signature look, balance, and feel.
The fully hollow body uses a trestle-block design, pairing a solid Honduran mahogany body with a laminate maple top. The result is an incredibly lightweight electric with a clear acoustic character, strong note separation, and the added control needed for real stage volume.
The Honduran mahogany neck is joined with Collings’ extra-long mortise and tenon joint and paired with an ebony fingerboard, 12" radius, 24 7/8" scale length, and graduated pearl dot inlays. Ebony fingerboard binding, an ebony peghead veneer with MOP Collings script logo, and the 470-JL peghead profile keep the look clean and refined.
A pair of Ron Ellis Ellisonic pickups gives the 470-JL its voice. They have custom adjustable height and are wired through the 470 control layout with master volume and two tone controls, using CTS 500K pots and Jupiter Vintage Yellow capacitors.
A pinned ebony bridge base with tune-o-matic saddle top and nylon saddles works with the Bigsby B3 vibrato for a smooth, musical feel. Relic nickel Waverly tuners with vintage oval buttons, antiqued nitrocellulose lacquer finish, and a deluxe hardshell case complete the build.
