About This Guitar
The Epiphone Prophecy SG in Obsidian Storm Satin takes the familiar double-cutaway SG design in a decidedly modern direction, combining an extended 25.5" scale length, stainless steel frets, and versatile Fishman Fluence electronics. Part of Epiphone's redesigned Prophecy series, this model features a mahogany SG Modern body with a maple cap and highly figured flamed maple veneer, a thermally aged maple neck, and a bound ebony fingerboard. The dark Obsidian Storm Satin finish highlights the figured top while black nickel hardware gives the instrument a restrained, aggressive appearance.
The mahogany body provides a solid tonal foundation with a focused midrange and strong sustain, while the maple cap contributes attack and definition. A highly figured flamed maple veneer adds visual depth beneath the satin finish. The SG Modern body shape retains the recognizable double-cutaway silhouette while incorporating the updated construction and appointments of the Prophecy series. A LockTone Modern bridge and Frequensator-inspired string-through-body tailpiece provide a stable string anchor, supporting clear note definition and consistent response across the instrument's extended scale length.
The glued-in, one-piece thermally aged maple neck is reinforced with graphite rods for improved stability and long-term durability. Epiphone's HyperGlide neck profile is designed for fast, comfortable playing, with a satin finish that allows smooth movement along the neck. Unlike traditional short-scale SG models, the Prophecy SG features a 25.5" scale length, providing additional string tension and definition for lower tunings and modern playing techniques. The bound ebony fingerboard features a 10"โ14" compound radius and 24 stainless steel frets, offering a comfortable surface for chords and a flatter upper register for bends and technical lead work. Black mother-of-pearl block inlays and a multi-ply-bound headstock with Epiphone's Custom split diamond inlay complete the contemporary design.
A pair of custom-voiced Fishman Fluence humbuckers gives the Prophecy SG a wide range of tonal options. Developed specifically for the Prophecy series, these pickups provide three selectable voices: high-output modern active humbucker tones, vintage-inspired PAF-style humbucker character, and clear single-coil-style articulation. Push/pull master volume and tone controls provide access to the different voices, while a three-way toggle switch allows selection of the neck pickup, bridge pickup, or both together. This combination makes the guitar equally capable of tight, articulate high-gain sounds and more traditional clean or overdriven tones.
Black nickel hardware, locking Grover Rotomatic tuning machines, and a Graph Tech nut provide dependable tuning performance and complement the Obsidian Storm Satin finish. The LockTone Modern bridge works with the string-through-body tailpiece to provide a secure string connection, while black pickup covers and knurled control knobs maintain the instrument's understated appearance. With its reinforced neck, stainless steel frets, multi-voice electronics, and distinctive SG styling, the Epiphone Prophecy SG Obsidian Storm Satin is built for demanding modern players. A Protector Ultralite case is included for storage and transportation.
