Fender Custom Shop Yngwie Malmsteen Strat Sonic Blue w/Case R145852

Serial: R145852
Weight: 7 lbs 14.6 oz

The Fender Custom Shop Yngwie Malmsteen Stratocaster is built around the details that make Malmsteen’s signature Strat such a specialized instrument, and this example stands out immediately in Sonic Blue. The NOS lacquer treatment keeps the finish clean and factory-fresh, while the scalloped maple fingerboard, brass nut, oversized frets, and YJM Fury pickups deliver the unmistakable Malmsteen specification.

The body is two-piece select alder with the signature Malmsteen arm contour, belly cut, and body radii. Sonic Blue nitrocellulose lacquer gives this Custom Shop build a less common look than the traditional Vintage White associated with the model, while the three-ply Eggshell pickguard and chrome/nickel hardware keep the presentation classic.

The maple neck uses Malmsteen’s C-shaped profile, measuring .790" at the first fret and .856" at the 12th. Its round-laminated scalloped maple fingerboard has a 9.5" radius, 21 Super Jumbo frets, and a 1.620" brass nut. The scalloped board is the defining feature here, reducing finger contact with the wood and giving bends and vibrato the distinctly controlled feel Malmsteen’s guitars are known for.

A trio of Seymour Duncan YJM Fury pickups handles the electronics, with dedicated neck/middle and bridge versions. They’re paired with a five-way selector, master volume, and traditional two-tone-control Strat layout, with the bridge pickup left out of the tone circuit.

Vintage-style synchronized tremolo hardware, Schaller “F” tuning machines, Dunlop flush-mount strap locks, Yngwie’s light-gauge .008-.046 strings, and a Fender Custom Shop Strat/Tele tweed case complete the package.
