About This Guitar

Serial: A960566
Weight: 9lb 5.1oz

The Gibson Custom 1959 ES-355 Maestro Varitone in Alpine White combines the upscale appointments of Gibson's flagship semi-hollow electric guitar with a distinctive Maestro Vibrola and six-position Varitone circuit. Built with a laminated maple/poplar/maple body, mahogany neck, and ebony fingerboard, this Custom Shop instrument features an Alpine White VOS finish, gold hardware, and traditional 1959 ES-355 styling. The Vintage Original Sheen treatment gives the finish and hardware a subtly aged appearance without the more pronounced wear associated with Murphy Lab aging.

The semi-hollow body features three-ply maple/poplar/maple construction for the top, back, and rims, supported by red spruce bracing and a windowed maple center block. Seven-ply black and white top binding, multi-ply back binding, and a bound tortoiseshell long pickguard provide the distinctive ES-355 appointments. The Alpine White finish extends across the body and neck, complemented by gold hardware and a black headstock with Gibson's traditional split-diamond inlay.

The mahogany neck features a 1959 ES-335 C-shaped profile measuring approximately .874" at the first fret and .957" at the twelfth. Its bound ebony fingerboard is fitted with pearl block inlays and Jescar medium-jumbo fretwire. A 24.75" scale length, nylon nut, and gold Grover tuning machines with kidney-shaped buttons complete the vintage-inspired neck construction.

Two unpotted Custombucker Alnico 3 humbuckers provide the electronics, paired with a mono Varitone circuit and six-position rotary selector for expanded tonal filtering. The Varitone circuit offers additional tonal options beyond the standard pickup combinations, while the traditional volume and tone controls provide familiar adjustments. A gold ABR-1 Historic bridge and long Maestro Vibrola tailpiece provide the hardware foundation, allowing expressive pitch modulation while maintaining the guitar's distinctive vintage appearance. A brown and pink vintage-style hardshell case and Gibson Custom Certificate of Authenticity are included.
