This 1958 Les Paul Junior Doublecut is faithfully recreated to spec by the Gibson Custom Shop, with it's substantial neck profile and single dogear P90 delivering a simple setup that's anything but simple. It's beauty has been in it's simplicity, and the Tone Shop Guitars custom design team wanted to take the finish up a notch. The Murphy Lab met our challenge with a stunning ultra light aged double gold finish.
1958 was a monumental year for Gibson in which a whole new lineup of now-famous models was introduced. One of them was the redesigned “double cutaway” Les Paul™ Junior, which has since found its place in music history as a favorite of hard rock musicians, especially when they have a broken-in feel like this one. The extra fret access of the double-cut construction allows upper octave leads, while the “simple is better” single-pickup setup projects a thick, heavy tone.
The 50s Rounded Medium C neck feels fantastic. it’s all about that extra roll from the Murphy Lab treatment that gives them the feel of a vintage original. Other highlights include a nylon nut, 1-ply Black celluloid pickguard, black Top Hat knobs, a black Dogear P-90 wired to master Volume and master Tone controls using CTS® 500k audio taper potentiometers and Paper-in-Oil capacitors.
