This Martin Custom Shop dreadnought was designed in collaboration with the Martin Custom Shop and built from woods handpicked by Tone Shop Guitars. Inspired by the HD-28 platform, this custom build blends classic 28-style dreadnought power with elevated 45-style appointments, premium Wild Grain East Indian rosewood, and an Adirondack spruce top.

The guitar starts with a “D” dreadnought body, pairing Adirondack spruce with Wild Grain East Indian rosewood back and sides. The top is supported by Adirondack spruce bracing in a forward-shifted X-brace pattern, with scalloped Golden Era hand-shaped bracing for a more open, responsive voice. The result is a dreadnought with strong projection, rich low-end depth, and the headroom you want from an Adirondack-topped Martin.

The Wild Grain East Indian rosewood back and sides were selected by Tone Shop Guitars, giving this custom piece a more distinctive visual character while keeping the warmth, complexity, and power players expect from a rosewood dreadnought. A Wild Grain East Indian rosewood headplate continues that custom detail up the neck.

The neck features a Modified V profile with High Performance Taper, a 1 3/4" nut width, and a black ebony fingerboard with long diamonds and squares inlays. The 25.4" scale length, 16" fingerboard radius, and 2 5/32" string spacing give the guitar a familiar Martin feel with plenty of room for both flatpicking and fingerstyle work.

Visually, this build brings together herringbone top inlay, Style 45 Boltaron rosette with select abalone, antique white binding, HD zig zag back purfling, a faux tortoise pickguard, and a polished headplate with CFM block inlay. It’s a custom dreadnought with a classic foundation, upgraded wood selection, and tasteful appointments that set it apart without overcomplicating the design.
