This Martin Custom Shop 28 Style Dreadnought pairs an Adirondack spruce top with a Tone Shop-selected set of Certified Machiche back and sides. It keeps the familiar herringbone Style 28 foundation but replaces the traditional rosewood body with one of the more unusual hardwoods currently appearing in Martin Custom Shop builds.

Machiche is a dense tropical American hardwood, generally reddish to dark brown with strong grain contrast and occasional lighter streaking. It is often compared visually to Honduran rosewood, and builders commonly describe its response as landing somewhere between mahogany and rosewood: a crisp attack and strong fundamental with more sustain and harmonic complexity than a typical mahogany-backed guitar. It is still an uncommon acoustic tonewood, which is a big part of what makes this build interesting.

The Adirondack spruce top uses forward-shifted, scalloped 5/16" Golden Era X-bracing made from Adirondack spruce and hand-shaped by Martin. Traditional Style 28 details include herringbone top trim, antique white binding, a Style 28 rosette, faux tortoise pickguard, and Aging Toner.

The select hardwood neck uses Martin’s GE Modified Low Oval profile with High Performance Taper and a 25.4" scale. A black ebony fingerboard features a 16" radius, 1 3/4" bone nut, 2 5/32" string spacing, and long Diamonds and Squares inlays in select abalone. The Machiche continues onto the headplate, tying the custom wood selection into the neck presentation.

A black ebony GE Modern Belly bridge, compensated bone saddle, bone pins with faux tortoise accents, and Grover nickel Sta-Tite 18:1 tuners complete the build. A Martin 5-ply hardshell case and Custom Shop Credentials Book are included.
