About This Guitar

This 2018 Martin DC Special Ovangkol is a prototype built for a dealer-exclusive model, combining an unusual all-solid tonewood pairing with a comfortable cutaway dreadnought platform and factory Fishman electronics.

A solid Sitka spruce top is paired with solid ovangkol back and sides, a tonewood rarely seen on Martin guitars. The body uses Martin’s Enhanced Dreadnought design with a shallower 4-1/8" depth, making it more comfortable against the body than a traditional full-depth dreadnought while retaining the familiar scale and footprint.

Forward-shifted scalloped 5/16" X-bracing provides the foundation underneath the spruce top, while the Sunburst gloss finish, antique white binding, tortoise-pattern pickguard, and multi-ring rosette give this Special model a distinctive look.

The solid mahogany neck features Martin’s Performing Artist profile with High Performance Taper and a 1-3/4" nut width. An FSC-certified Richlite fingerboard, 25.4" scale length, and single cutaway make the guitar particularly comfortable for players moving between acoustic and electric instruments.

For amplified use, the Fishman Matrix VT Enhanced system combines an undersaddle pickup with an Enhance bridge-plate transducer. Soundhole-mounted volume and tone controls are joined by an Enhance blend control, allowing the body transducer to be mixed into the amplified signal.

This 2018 prototype is offered as B-Stock.
