At the heart of the Chieftain is a highly interactive preamp utilizing five 12AX7 tubes, including dedicated circuitry for its lush tube-driven spring reverb. A powerful active midrange control dramatically expands the tonal palette, allowing players to shape everything from scooped American-inspired tones to focused British-style punch. The preamp feeds a pair of EL34 power tubes through a 12AX7 phase inverter, delivering exceptional headroom, articulation, and dynamic response.

The Chieftain's extensive control layout includes Volume, Bass, Mid, Treble, Brilliance, Master Volume, and Reverb controls, providing immediate access to a wide range of tube-driven tones. Additional professional features include a built-in effects loop, tube-powered spring reverb, and a switchable output impedance selector for compatibility with a variety of speaker cabinets.

Built in Matchless tradition, the Chieftain is housed in a rugged hand-crafted 11-ply, 3/4" Baltic birch cabinet wrapped in richly textured black vinyl and finished with the company's signature illuminated logo and control panel.
