About This Guitar

The PRS Tekton is the hardtail in PRS’s new Tekton family, a from-scratch modern platform aimed at players who live above the 12th fret. A 25.5” scale, a 16” fretboard radius, stainless steel frets, and the thinnest body and neck PRS has put into standard production add up to a guitar that gets out of the way. This one is finished in Black Tourmaline.

The body pairs a figured mango top with a mahogany back under a shallow violin carve. Mango is an unusual choice for a top wood and the figure moves in a way flame maple doesn’t, which is a big part of why the Tekton looks like nothing else in the PRS line. An exaggerated scoop at the upper horn opens up the top frets, and a belly carve keeps it comfortable sitting or standing.

The maple neck is scarf-jointed and carved to a Modern “D” profile: thin, but with enough shoulder that it doesn’t feel like a stick. Hormigo strength rods run through it — the same idea as the carbon rods PRS uses in its acoustics — adding stability and rigidity, which also does good things for how the guitar resonates. The ebony fingerboard carries a new-for-PRS offset dot inlay and Luminlay side dots so you can find your place on a dark stage. String spacing matches the PRS Silver Sky and Fiore — a touch wider than PRS’s traditional spacing, which helps with sweeping and gives the picking hand more room to be precise. Stainless steel frets, PRS Jumbo size, on a 16” radius.

PRS voiced the Stylus pickups specifically for this family. They’re aggressive but clear, with a flatter output than most PRS humbuckers — deliberately, so they behave through digital rigs and modelers as well as they do into a tube amp. Alnico 5 magnets, and lower output than a lot of pickups aimed at this genre, which is where the note definition comes from. Every position is usable: humbucking or split, alone or together.

The PRS Hardtail bridge uses individual saddles for accurate intonation and a string-through design that adds sustain. PRS Phase III locking tuners, smoked black hardware throughout, high-gloss nitro on the body and satin nitro on the neck. Ships with a PRS Premium Gig Bag.

Tekton is the Ancient Greek word for craftsman or builder — specifically a woodworker. Stylus is an instrument for writing. PRS picked both on purpose.
