Master Builder Paul Waller and Master Pickup Winder Josefina Campos are coming to our Addison shop for a full day of Fender Custom Shop. Design your own Custom Shop guitar during the day, then stay for the Road Show that night.

Sit down with Doty, our Custom Shop guitar designer, and a Fender Custom Shop Factory Expert, and spec a guitar from the ground up: model, woods, neck, finish, aging, pickups and hardware.

Appointments run 30 minutes. Custom orders require a deposit.

The Road Show

Paul and Josefina take the floor for a presentation on how the Custom Shop builds a guitar, from raw wood to a finished Masterbuilt instrument. Get up close with Custom Shop guitars, catch special event pricing and stick around for giveaways.

Free and open to the public. Seating is limited. Giveaway winners must be present.

Meet the builders

Paul built his first guitar at 14 in his high school wood shop. After working in a cabinet shop and a small Southern California guitar maker, he graduated from the Roberto-Venn School of Luthiery in 2000 and joined Fender in 2003.

He spent two years working alongside archtop builder Bob Benedetto, learned from the Custom Shop's Master Builders over a seven-year apprenticeship, and earned the Master Builder title in 2010. His work includes Telecasters for Keith Richards, a custom Thinline Telecaster for Bono, basses for Adam Clayton, Stratocasters for Buddy Guy, the Nile Rodgers "Hitmaker" Stratocaster and the George Harrison Tribute Rosewood Telecaster.

While he's here, Paul will finish a Masterbuilt Telecaster in our shop.

Josefina started at Fender in 1991, sanding guitar bodies by hand at the factory in Corona. She went on to apprentice under Abigail Ybarra, the pickup winder Leo Fender hired in 1956, learning techniques that go back to the earliest Stratocasters and Telecasters.

Today Josefina is the Custom Shop's Master Pickup Winder. Her hand-wound pickups go into Masterbuilt guitars and select limited Custom Shop runs.

While she's here, Josefina will wind a set of pickups by hand.

How a Custom Shop order works

No pressure to order on the spot. Come with an idea, leave with a spec.

  1. Request your time

    Pick a 30-minute slot Thursday between 11 AM and 6 PM. We'll call or text to confirm.

  2. Spec it out

    Work through model, woods, neck, finish, aging and pickups with Doty and the Fender Custom Shop Factory Expert. Pull guitars off our wall to compare colors and aging in person.

  3. Lock it in

    Ready to go? We place your order with a deposit.

  4. The Custom Shop builds it

    We'll give you a build timeline at your appointment and let you know when your guitar arrives.

Questions

Is the Road Show free?

Yes. The evening Road Show is free and open to the public. Seating is limited, so plan to get here a little early.

Do I need an appointment for the evening event?

No. Appointments are only for the daytime design sessions from 11 AM to 6 PM. For the Road Show, just come by at 7.

Do I have to order a guitar at my appointment?

No. Come spec out the guitar you have in mind and take your time deciding. If you're ready to order, we'll lock it in with a deposit.

How long does a Custom Shop build take?

Build times depend on the model and specs. We'll give you a timeline at your appointment.

How do the giveaways work?

Giveaways happen during the Road Show, 7-9 PM. You have to be here to win.

We take Fender Custom Shop orders year-round. Call or text 972-661-8663 and we'll help you spec one out.
